JOINT COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY THE STANDING COMMITTEE MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION OF SOUTHEAST ASIAN NATIONS, MANILA, FEBRUARY 19, 1970.

The first Meeting for 1970 of the ASEAN Standing Committee was held on 18 February at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Manila, Philippines.
The meeting was chairmanned by H.E. Carlos P. Romulo, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, The members of the committee present in the meeting were. Mr. Hardi Djamian, Charge d'Affaires of Indonesia, Mr. Mohd Yusof Bin Hitam, Charge d'Affaires of Malaysia, H.E. Haji Yaacob Mohamed, Ambassador of Singapore and H.E. Chintamye Amatayakul, Ambassador of Thailand.
The Standing Committee considered and approved the various recommendations submitted to them by the Secretaries-General among which were the schedule of meetings of the different Permanent and Ad Hoc Committees, the institutionalization of Secretaries-General meetings, the principle to make each Secretary-General responsible in supervising the work of these committees under his respective jurisdiction and the Memorandum of Understanding on Assistance to ASEAN on Economic Cooperation between ECAFE and ASEAN.
The Meeting was held in the friendliest of terms and in an atmosphere of warm cordiality. The Standing Committee expressed appreciation to the Secretaries-General for their work and thanked the ASEAN National Secretariat of the Philippines for servicing efficiently the Meeting.
