FULL TITLE : AN ACT AMENDING REPUBLIC ACT NO. 8293, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY CODE OF THE PHILIPPINES, TO LOWER THE COST OF DRUGS AND PHARMACEUTICAL PRODUCTS AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES
ABSTRACT : One of the impediments to the implementation of the Generics Law is that drug manufacturers have to wait for a long period for the patent of medicines to expire before they are allowed to manufacture low-priced drugs. To enable the government to control the prevailing price schemes of drug companies and to support the fledging local drug industry, the bill seeks to shorten the patent period of drugs and to institutionalize compulsory licensing.
